Hamsters, Hamper and the missing Marigolds

Monday night

Hi all . . . This is gonna be a real lazy post. I worked a solid fourteen hours today . . .  for the third day in a row. I won't bore you with a list, although I would love to really . . . but I'm not here to write, I know, I did want to write tonight but its 11pm now and I've got a banging headache, very rare for me. Could be the sudden very hot sun for three days, though I've mostly worked indoors . . . Or these temporary reading glasses I bought whilst mine are being mended,. Anyway, all that to say I'm not gonna write . . . I'm gonna put some photos up from yesterday. The colour quality is not too good, I'll check with Geekster, I'm sure he will know what to do. I'll try and resist writing a commentary but I doubt I'll try hard enough.

So from me, for now, here's some flowers that are finally blooming on my patio . . . mostly grown from seed by my step-dad, for which I'm very grateful, no really . . . but he does tend to grow way too many Petunias and Marigolds . . . I'm not sure where all the Marigolds have gone, I think the slugs are partial to Marigolds. I'm not. I wonder if allowing some slugs to feast on the Marigolds compensates, karma wise, for throwing handfuls of slug pellets around the other plants?

A few shots of Gledwood's three pups with three of Faith's pups (all off to the pet shop next week) I said that two weeks ago, so it's not yet a done deal. I shouldn't keep them really as I have another twenty . . . but they'll be separated to be sold, and they're so happy together . . . I would only need one more cage for the males; the females could stay with their two mothers . . .  We'll see ;-)

Hamper G is learning to ride her bike a l'American (I presume, as most of the lessons on You Tube are from America) . . . It's the latest, obviously, much more efficient way for kids to learn. Rather than breaking your back, and lungs in my case, running alongside them holding the seat . . . Only to watch them wobble and fall when you let go, or worse (?) cycle off and not be able to stop! . . . The idea is to remove the pedals and let them scoot along, gradually gaining balance and confidence, until they start to lift their feet and cruise . . . Once they can cruise, happily, for six or seven seconds, on go the pedals and  . . . off they go! . . . Hamper is now ready for the pedals but would like a bit longer. No rush.

Next day . . . My head hurt so much that I had to stop. It's now 7am, I've still got a slight head ache so I won't stay long. I'll bring the photos here and start on another mammoth fourteen hour day. All being well, I will catch up on Blogs later and write some more.

The six pups huddled in a box while I clean their cage.

Their house and sharing the wheel . . . I've seen four of them sharing the wheel, successfully, before

.

Cruising . . . and learning to stop.

Next door but one's eldest girl (eldest of eight!) painted Hamper's nails. She's thirteen and very popular with Geekster and his friends . . .

I do like Lobelia and the Blue Mink.

OK, kids are hungry . . . It's a scorcher already. Loads of work to be done . . . Bernie is here. I've cleaned and filled our 10ft  "paddling" pool . . . let's hope my neighbour is ready for some fun in the sun! There were eight kids in the garden yesterday.
I'll be back later. Hope you all have a real good day. Thanks for being here, love to all x

    1. Just been and commented, first one! . . there's no follow option yet?
Yes I've seen those balance bikes, it's the same principle. Cuts out all the stabiliser stage (good idea). I'll try and sneak Hamper's pedals back on soon.
Take care Yas, keep trying. I'll update later . . . but I'm back to day one again! . . . with twelve hours to go.
OK, loads to do x x

  2. oh btw my littl girl E is 5 and learning at the mo, she has one of those balance bikes which are pretty much the same thing but with a huge price tag and you have to buy a bike after...

  3. You have been busy and things have been moving in my absence. Now, about this beating yourself up? Could that have contributed to your headache?
Hugs from afar. Cyber ones as I know the real ones tend to creep you out a tad.

    1. The E's C . . . I think I over did it, I came to a halt today (well I did a few bits but not what I had planned) . . . managed to give myself a good hiding ;-)
      Thinking of you both xx

  4. Never seen that one on the learning to ride but makes sense. Both mine were taught by my Mum who had the patience! :-D

    1. Furheron, Yeah I looked it up on You Tube to get an idea of how to teach her (The lads were taught by their Dads) And every lesson on there removes the pedals . . . So I thought best give it a go. I may have carried on the "no pedals" a tad too long though, as she's very used to it now . . . and is more then happy cruising!

  5. The hamsters are so cute - wouldn't like to see them in my house with 2 cats though!

And Hamper is adorable! I can't believe that anyone would have so many kids as your neighbors do these days! And all under 14. That would be a tired uterus (unless it is a patchwork family - then it's not so hard to fathom)

If you've been working hard - maybe you haven't kept your fluids up esp if there's extra heat you aren't accustomed to - make sure you drink lots of water.

Your flowers are beautiful! I despair of my potted plants - I forget to water them and they are parched every day in this heat.

That method of learning to ride seems quite sensible - but my kids learned to ride in no time just the regular way - none of them had any fear at all and I think that's the big obstacle. (It took me forever - I had training wheels but my sister's boyfriend took them off and I was too upset to ride it. It wasn't until a friend goaded me to ride one day and I promptly ran into our hedge - but then I was off like a pro)

    1. Hi Jeannie, All from the same womb! two from previous marriage 13 and 12, Then six aged between ten and three from this bloke. She's only 32, and doesn't look as though she's had any children.
They had seventeen kids in their garden and paddling pool (another huge one) today, including my two . . . which was excellent timing, I actually had a rest.
Yeah, both my lads were taught by their Dads so it's a first for me . . . After an hour of running along with her and getting nowhere I checked on-line, and this is the new way it seems . . . we'll see.
      I should be watering right now . . . O well x

    1. Hi Bev . . . I offered to send him a couple of his pups. I named a hamster Gledwood, thinking it was a male, then she had pups!
Yeah me too, I got some leopard leggings . . . My lads say I'm too old to wear them. Sometimes I agree . . . and sometimes I don't ;-)
I'll deffo wear them for camping. That's one, maybe even the main, reason I love camping, as clothes and belongings are minimal and nothing really matters much . . . Love it. Take care Bev x

  9. So good to hear from you! Your little girl is so cute. I love that first picture of her coasting....with her back to us and her feet up and out and her hat hanging off her back. So adorable! Your yard is so green and lush....absolutely beautiful! I am envious. I have been forced to let mine go a'natureal this year. meaning its all forest with no flowers...only what is still there from previous years. We keep them watered but nothing new this year. I do miss the cheeriness of the color....Yours is gorgeous!

    1. Ah Thanks Annette . . . I've been so busy, but I was kinda forced to rest some today. Once I get going I want to do it all in one day . . . which, of course, I can't.
I've only worked on the patio, the rest of the back garden is three foot high grass, the kids have walked it flat!
Hope all is well with you Annette, love sent your way x

  10. Your garden looks immaculate. I would love a nice garden, but alas mine tends to run to weeds. Why is it that they are the hardiest of all plants?!
And that's a great way for Hamper-G to learn to ride her bike.
    Love to you from KG

      Love to you too x

  12. Your weather seems to be great for growing those lovely plants. Our yard is brimming with flowers but by mid-August many are tired from the heat. Your little girl is cute and so are the hamsters. Hope that Gleds will get a couple.

    1. After these photos we had almost a week of Sun, they are all much bigger now . . . but no more Sun, we're back to grey skies and rain. O well, it makes us very grateful when we do get some Sun.
I would gladly take a couple to Gleds . . . but I don't think he's up for it. Maybe one day.
