O Wow! . . . I found the Higgins picture.

Whilst looking for the drawings of Hanneka yesterday, I decided to have a major clear out of that area. That area, being the whole top shelf of a huge built-in wardrobe, where I've been filing throwing letters, drawings and photographs . . . old school books, school reports, cards and paintings that the kids have made over the years  . . . . Pretty much anything that I imagined might give me pleasure to look back on, one day.

As I was sorting through a pile of papers this picture of Higgins jumped out . . . I can't even begin to describe the melee of emotions that I felt, not to mention the physical reaction. I really believed this picture had been destroyed by a more recent partner, along with the very few photos that I'd kept of us together. I was very pleased to find it again; partly to be able to put a face to the name in the stories and partly  . . . well, it made my day!

I did love that man, really, I know I did . . . and I know he loved me too.
Anyway, that will all be told in time.
. . . I also found the passport that I ran away with, and the only remaining photo of me in Spain. We sure caused each other some heart ache . . . and I wouldn't change one second of it.

Higgins and Eliza . . . and all that crazy passion.

  2. He looks a lot like Peter O'Toole, esp. in the movie Lawrence of Arabia. Is that a publicity shot?

    1. Hi, He does. That's why I drew the picture of Peter O' Toole in France (on Higgins part 1), as I din't have this photograph with me in France . . . and I missed him.
It is a publicity shot yeah. It's proper taken me by surprise and stirred up stuff that I thought I was over . . . Well over. Fuck these hormones ;-)
      Love to you x

    2. Yes, I did see that picture you drew, must have lodged in my memory, and the similarity is striking!
My hormones are terrible at the moment, swinging between wildly happy and so down in the dumps I feel like crying all the time. I think the relationship is causing equal parts of elation and grief! Oh well, as they say be careful what you wish for, you might just get it.
      Love to you KG xx

  3. Flipping heck - that is very much like I'd imagined him to look like... how odd is that! Peter O'Toole possibly was an influence in my thinking too

    1. Hi, he did look a lot like him. The drawing was my replacement photo in France . . . until I came back to England. Flipping heck indeed! (sigh) x

  4. Definitely had a very dramatic look to him - and it also looks so typically 70's too! I wish the photo of you was just that wee bit clearer - you look to be really cute/pretty but quite sad at that moment. I don't have pictures of any old boyfriends. Not that I had many. There are a few guys I went out with that I don't even remember their names any more.

    1. Oh Jeannie . . . Drama was his middle name. I think I was quite sad at the time; I could see it all going horribly wrong and I so wanted it to work, time and time again.
If my house was ever on fire, after the kids, I would save the photos and drawings . . . Oh and all the hamsters! (and vinyl if I had time!) x

    1. No worries Bev, ask as much as you like. He was for 20 years on and off . . . A very volatile relationship to say the least. I'm single now, happily so (mostly ;-) x

  6. Ohhh he is so dashing! Very Peter O'Toole and so quintessentially British! You look lovely, too.
I can't wait for the next Higgins and Eliza installment. You are such a beautiful writer, you built the tension so beautifully and I was on the edge of my seat reading it!
So pleased you found the photograph and had that sudden rush of emotion. Sorry if you've written about this and I missed it, but where is he now (or is that coming up in the next episodes?)

    xx

    1. Yes, A frightfully Britiish thoroughbred.
I spent some time on the next episode last night, almost there now and I'm glad you're enjoying it.
Eventually the stories will bring us up to date (only another 30 yrs!) but he plays a part in some of those years . . . I haven't written about anything more recent, yet. Other than day to day life.
You might have missed how we met; I think there are five or six episodes so far on the "Flashes from the Archives" page, link below header. They're in chronological order, I wish I had more time to write.
      Thanks for reading x

    2. I wish you had more time to write, too. You write so evocatively, with a real sense of place and build-up of drama.

Nope I read how you met. I read your blog from the start to the present a while ago! I wouldn't have appeared on your stats though because it was through google reader x

    1. Hi Gledwood, I'm not sure how my Sister or partner chose her name . . . I'll ask her next time she's on line.
I wonder what your name is? I have a feeling it's of Welsh origin . . . Of course I know you'll never say.
      Take care x

  9. I grew up in Wales and even had to do GCSE Welsh at school and it doesn't sound that Welsh to me...

Thanks to google I can inform you it's the Hebrew word for "grace":~~~

Hanneka was the mother of the Old Testament prophet Samuel, so it seems...

    1. Oh! I thought you meant your name was the Hebrew word for grace.
I only imagined that Gledwood was a mix of first name and surname . . . Surname being Edwards (which is Welsh), I then assumed your first name must begin with "gl" . . . like, well I don't know, I'm sure there are Welsh names beginning with Gl, Glynn?
Anyway, I'm wrong. But would you tell me if I were right? No. :-)
